Get real relief for your springtime allergies.

Spring is just around the corner.

We recommended acupuncture treatment as early as possible before the spring is in full bloom.

Every year the springtime brings various pollens and the blossoming of flowers, grasses and weeds to the air.

This change of season can trigger the onset of allergies causing hay fever, watery and itchy eyes, sneezing, sinusitis, rhinitis, headaches, coughs, runny nose, head congestion and tiredness.

The winds bring seasonal allergies and in TCM we consider springtime allergies in terms of the wind element. We also view it as a blockage of Qi to the nose or imbalance in the flow of Qi.

Allergy symptoms will either present as Wind-cold or Wind-heat. Bi Yuan (translates to “nose-pool”) comes from a deficiency in Wei Qi – the internal force that protects us from the wind – otherwise known as our immune system. Combining acupuncture and Chinese medicine can be very effective in treating these allergens.

In TCM we promote the healthy flow of Qi (energy) that travels through the meridians of our bodies. There are specific herbs that are known to dry phlegm, relieve coughs, alleviate red and itchy eyes, and clear the wind pathogen and strengthen the immune system.

Conventional medical treatments, which consist of antihistamines and steroid nasal sprays, focus on suppressing the symptoms. They can provide relief in the short term but can create side effects and health risks if used long-term.

People tend to get some relief from allergy symptoms during their first acupuncture treatment.

After an initial series of treatments, further treatments will be done on an as-needed basis. Some people may come back once or twice a year for a preventative treatment.

At Turning Point Acupuncture we like clients with allergies to undertake preventative treatment during August before spring arrives in September. We recommended treatment as early as possible before the spring is in full bloom.
